Itinerary Details
Day 1: Pathankot - Dharamshala
Firstly arrive in Pathankot, by train. Then get an assisted transfer to Dharamshala. After reaching there, check-in at your pre-decided hotel. Dharamshala offers a slew of entertaining opportunities after you’ve exhausted the possibilities of walking in the Lower and Upper segments of this hill station. After all, it is located in the heart of the Kangra Valley, one of the major cultural zones of North India. Dense rows of brightly lit hotels with their fake Lhasa rooftops and bazaars seem to dwarf the giant deodar pines and oaks. Spend the rest of the day indulging in the activities of your interest. Stay overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Dharamshala (McLeod Ganj)
On the 2nd day of your tour, savor your breakfast and then start your sightseeing in Dharamshala. The town has a number of important temples, is famous for its natural produce, and is celebrated for its school of miniature paintings. Dal lake is sacred to locals and teeming with goldfish, and you may feed them. It’s a beautiful walk to the lake from the town, though you can also drive. The Namgyaima Stupa with its rows of prayer wheels is as loud and colorful as the marketplace in which it stands. The stupa is a memorial to the Tibetans who died fighting in their homeland.
Next visit to the Church of St John-in-the-Wilderness, is a stone building that stands aloof under giant deodar pines, disdainful of the changes all around it. With its exquisite stained glass windows depicting John the Baptist with Jesus, was among the first buildings to be erected here by the British in 1852. The Bhagsu Nag shrine, as old as the Dal Lake locals outs at the age of 10,000 years temple dedicated to the Snake God and Lord Shiva. Kotwali Bazaar in Lower Dharamshala is where you will find shops selling everything from wool to woolens, Tibetan carpets, thangkas, ponchos, jackets, chubas, silver and stone jewelry and trinkets, lamps, statues, fruit preserves tahini and muesli. Overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 3: Dharamshala - Dalhousie
On the 3rd day of the tour, savor your breakfast and then head to Dalhousie. Upon reaching, complete the check-in and go for the sightseeing of Dalhousie. Sleepy Dalhousie is ideal if you want to repair the mountains for a quiet break without the crowds that throng most other hill stations. Spanning a height that begins at 5,005 ft, it climbs up to an astonishing 7,802 ft. It has a toy-town beauty that other Himalayan resorts so often lack, and a sensibility that translates into sprawling bungalows and charming cottages reminiscent of European villages.
With a few walking trails and magnificent views of both the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges, there is nothing of significance within Dalhousie itself. There are waterfalls, streams, and natural clearings in such perfect picnic spots as Satdhara and Panjpullah waterfalls. For those interested in views, the best choices are Bakrota Hill – home to a rambling house called Snowdon. And from Nehru Tibba, you get superb views of numerous rivers winding through the valleys in the distance. From Kalatope, an exquisitely beautiful natural spot, savor the spectacular sunsets. Overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 4: Dalhousie- Khajjiar - Chamba - Dalhousie
Day 4 is scheduled for an excursion to Chamba and Khajjiar. A must-see excursion that is best when you spend the day here with a picnic hamper. Khajjiar is the venue for picnickers who spread themselves across the grassy downs, with nothing but the clear sky above, and peaks visible in the distance. A temple to Khajinag, after which it takes its name, is the only must–do sight in Khajjiar.
Make another excursion to Chamba, the temple town of amazing serenity and beauty. The Laxmi Narayan Temple's structure dates as far back as the 10th century, and is the oldest and most revered. From the ancient Chamunda Devi temple you can enjoy spectacular views of the Ravi River. A visit to the Bhuri Singh Museum here is strongly recommended, for it is a rich storehouse of Kangra and Basholi School paintings, art and craft of the Kangra region, and murals of the Rang Mahal Palace. Back to Dalhousie for the overnight stay.
Day 5: Departure from Dalhousie
